I haven't been in lately, but I had an iPod that wouldn't charge. I had tried charging via computer, via the wall, it just wouldn't even acknowledge it was plugged in. I made a genius appointment, brought it in, and he's like well, let me try plugging it in here to the USB cause it has more juice. I'm thinking more than straight to the wall? Idiot. After 15 minutes he acknowledged it wouldn't charge. Frustrating to be treated like an idiot.

Yes, certainly that is another digital divide. However, I am worried that our "free markets" have not resulted in cheaper, faster service. It has directly resulted in slower, more expensive service than our peer countries (in terms of development: europe, japan, etc)

While I do agree with you, I am constantly reminded how good we do have it when I realize that I have more bandwidth to my house than the entire office in Johannesburg shares for external internet access. And I pay dramatically less than what the office does.

Thanks for the CrashPlan recommendation! I've been looking for a good backup plan and that looks like the best--all the features I've been hoping for at a great price.

I hardly use Facebook anymore for just the reasons you describe (anyone who follows me there knows that 90% of my status updates are pushed from Twitter anyway). G+ is working well for me right now as a more social extension of my online life, whereas Facebook is looking more like the place to reach my Luddite friends. Email is broken, and I would abandon it in a heartbeat if my company didn't rely on it so heavily.

I remain convinced that Circles are the secret sauce that will slowly pull everyone to G+ and/or force the other social networks to imitate them.
