Internet, I love you, but you’re bringing me down.<\/p>\n

(with all apologies to LCD Soundsystem)<\/p>\n

I can’t get up the motivation to blog about much these days. Summer is here, the socks are off, Emilia keeps growing and growing, and there just isn’t much time for blogging.<\/p>\n

I should be a better journal-er, I know it’s in there somewhere… but the priorities go something like this…<\/p>\n

1. Spend QT with Family<\/p>\n

2. Relax by medium-sized body of water suitable for swimming<\/p>\n

3. Cook tasty meals with the ample vegetables received from our CSA: Featherstone Farm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That may be a little overstated, I did play Mario Galaxy for 20 minutes a few days ago instead of blogging.<\/p>\n

I’m starting to get on the wagon when it comes to the idea that multitasking is bad for your brain. I didn’t hop on this train after I turned 30, either. Most of the research that I have seen lately says that people are cognitively better off to focus on one specific task at a time. The PBS documentary Digital Nation<\/a> wades right into to this debate. Turn off your IM, your email, your TV. Quit every application that you don’t need running and FOCUS.<\/p>\n

It’s funny, but one way I think the iPad is a glimpse into the future of computing is by the way it forces you into a single-tasking environment. It’s almost too bad that one of the major new features of iOS4 is the ability to “multi-task”. I guess it will be good for allowing Pandora to run in the background, but personally, I feel like we don’t need any help doing more things at once. If anything, we need help (serious, lie-down-on-the-couch type help) doing less.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
