{"id":361,"date":"2002-12-17T09:38:34","date_gmt":"2002-12-17T14:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colianni.net\/aj\/archives\/2002\/12\/17\/david-ortiz-we-hardly-knew-ye\/"},"modified":"2002-12-17T09:38:34","modified_gmt":"2002-12-17T14:38:34","slug":"david-ortiz-we-hardly-knew-ye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colianni.net\/aj\/archives\/2002\/12\/17\/david-ortiz-we-hardly-knew-ye\/","title":{"rendered":"David Ortiz, we hardly knew ye!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, the great promise of a power hitter that was David Ortiz set sail for better seas today as the Twins released him to make room for some Class A SS that no one has heard of (<a href=\"http:\/\/twinstakes.bonnes.com\/members\/jbonnes\/home.nsf\/62fc4ddb2474796788256aea007597d8\/EA124811819C6EEA88256C910075FF3B!OpenDocument\">that&#8217;s another story<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who saw David Ortiz uncork a shot to the upper deck knew that the man could hit, but they also knew he had an ugly swing, was not-so-good in the field, was hurt half the time (or more) that he was with the twins, struggled against lefties, and with runners in scoring position.<\/p>\n<p>So although I think the man could hit 35 home runs in a season, maybe more, we&#8217;ll just have to watch from afar. As was written on TwinsGeek today, <quote>Want to hear something that surprised me? Ortiz&#8217;s career totals with the Twins include just 58 home runs over the last five years.
