I noticed at Noodles the other day that they had been voted the Best New Restaurant, obviously I had to investigate. Luckily the Rochester Magazine (division of the Rochester Post-Bulletin) is a free site. The Roch P-B is not free (far from it, $60 a year just for online access!). Another rant for another day.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhoo, I&#8217;ve got the list. I present some of my &#8220;favorite&#8221; picks. I swear I am not making any of these up. I don&#8217;t necessarily disagree with the picks, they may very well be the &#8220;Best of Rochester&#8221;. However:<\/p>\n<p>A: It&#8217;s a sad commentary on the current state of restaurants in the supposed &#8220;best small city to live in&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>B: I just have to disagree on principal with picks such as Red Lobster as Best Seafood.<\/p>\n<p><em><font size=\"-1\">My snarky little comments are in italics.<\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"+1\">Rochester Magazine Readers&#8217; Choice:<br \/>\nBest of Restaurants<\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Appetizers:<\/strong> Applebee&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>Runner-up: TGI Friday&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Two chains start off the list. Tons of originality there.<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Bar:<\/strong> Brothers Bar &#038; Grill<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Here&#8217;s how the little description reads:<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There&#8217;s no pool tables or jukebox and only five televisions, <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Wow, sweet can I go?<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>and the bar is tucked into a nondescript strip mall and sandwiched between the Consignment Closet and Electrolux Vacuum Sales. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>The atmosphere just oozes out of this place.<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So it must be the friendly, know-your-name atmosphere that makes Brothers Rochester&#8217;s favorite bar. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Sounds like a great idea for a TV show&#8230;. oh wait&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And it continues on from there&#8230;<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Coming this year: live music. Get out those dancing shoes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Stop it! It&#8217;s too much! Live Music? I might go into meltdown.<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Beer Selection:<\/strong> Whistle Binkies<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>This one I agree with&#8230; Whistle Binkies has been a great addition. Over 100 beers, pretty cheap prices. But I don&#8217;t drink beer&#8230; Next!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not even going to comment on these next few&#8230;<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Breakfast:<\/strong> Perkins<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Buffet:<\/strong> Golden Corral Grill &#038; Buffet<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Coffee:<\/strong> Caribou (Runner Up: Starbucks)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Deli:<\/strong> Panera<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Desserts:<\/strong> Bakers Square Restaurant &#038; Pies<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Health Food:<\/strong> Subway<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Ice Cream:<\/strong> Dairy Queen<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Make it stop!<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Late Night Dining: <\/strong>Perkins<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\">One of two places open past 10. The other? Denny&#8217;s<\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Restaurant For Kids: <\/strong>McDonald&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\"><em>Apparently the play-balls are washed once a week.<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Soup: <\/strong>Panera<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Steak: <\/strong>Outback<\/p>\n<p>And my all time favorite&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Seafood:<\/strong>Red Lobster (Runner-up: Canadian Honker, not even close to a seafood restaurant)<\/p>\n<p>Most absurd category: (The pick one chain restaurant we don&#8217;t have category)#xd<strong>The One Restaurant Rochester Needs Immediately:<\/strong> Chili&#8217;s Grill &#038; Bar<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"-1\">With Olive Garden out of the way, Rochesterites have a new restaurant in their sights! Order more baby back ribs!<\/font><\/p>\n<p>The result that makes me think everyone that voted is slightly confused&#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>Best Indian Restaurant:<\/strong>India Garden <font size=\"-1\">(at the time of the writing, the only Indian restaurant in town) The runner up is: Cheng Mai <strong>Thailand<\/strong> Yep, not finding another Indian restaurant to vote for, we&#8217;ll just vote for a Thai restaurant&#8230; same side of the globe I guess&#8230;<\/font><\/p>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;m afraid the madness will never end.
